The essential characteristics of a minimalist workspace are as follows:
simplicity
functionality
organization
It is vital that our work space reflects these values. Now, where everything in our workplace is virtual, there is essentially no need for many things other than your computer. That is why investing in a good quality computer is essential to a long-lasting and functional workplace. I have used several computers and by far the 2022 Macbook Pro has most computers on the market beat. In my experience, it is the most versatile computer on the market as of now. I use it for sport video editing, photography editing, to run my online businesses, and also my university school work. If you are not an apple fan, I would also recommend the Microsoft surface laptop. It has the expansion of a laptop and a tablet, however, I am an apple fan, and Microsoft's customer service cannot compete with apple in my experience.
The second most important piece to your workspace is your seat. We spend a significant amount of time sitting and looking at screens, so it is essential to have ergonomic seats to protect our cervical and lumbar. The ergonomic seat I use encourages healthy posture.
Another overlooked essential I would recommend is a functional lamp with some sort of charging ports. I used a sleek stainless steel lamp with only charging ports. Since we are almost strictly in a paperless world, there is not a need for anything extra like a pen holder.
Finally, the actual desk. I mentioned this in my bedroom essentials post, but I try to avoid furniture with too much storage. And since we are a virtual society, what do we need to store? Our laptop, a keyboard maybe, and a lamp. A sleek, sturdy, and fashionable desk is more than sufficient for our modern needs. The desk I use only has a two shelves for a few books and a plant for decoration. I don't ever feel the need for more storage.
