You might have noticed a theme in these blog posts. The principle of minimalistic home-living is to maximize functionality with less items. This same principle applies to how you decorate your home. While it might seem that decorating a home might be an nuisance and maybe a little pointless, the way our homes' are set up directly affects our psyche. It affects our overall mental health. That is why I have researched the three main colors that serve the most purpose in my home. That is:
Blue: Blue is often associated with feelings of calmness, tranquility, and relaxation. It can help reduce stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of peace and stability. Blue is commonly found in nature, such as the color of the sky and water, which may contribute to its soothing effect on the mind.
Green: Green is strongly linked to nature and has a restorative and rejuvenating quality. It is often associated with feelings of balance, harmony, and renewal. Being in natural green environments or incorporating green elements into indoor spaces can help reduce mental fatigue, enhance focus, and promote a sense of well-being.
Yellow: Yellow is a bright and cheerful color that is often associated with happiness, optimism, and energy. It can evoke feelings of warmth and positivity, uplifting the mood and increasing mental stimulation. Yellow is often used to create a sense of joy and vitality in various settings.
It might seem like a good idea to paint our walls these colors, but try experimenting using them as accents to a neutral colored home. Using white and grey shades encourage more freedom to experiment with these colors in framed art pieces, throw blankets, pillows, and ect...
For art, I really enjoy having pieces that are simple and elegant. Geometric and limited colored pieces are versatile and timeless. Here are a few pieces I use in my home right now:
For pillows and throw blankets, neutral shades and unicolored pieces are always the way to go. We might be drawn to fun patterns, but try to limit that to one piece per space. Too many patterns cause the area too look too busy and cluttered. After all, the idea is to keep the space to serve the function of peace and tranquility.
I also heavily incorporate plants into my living spaces. The easiest plants to keep alive are monsteras. As long as you water them and give them a proper vase to live in they will live forever. Another amazing and beneficial plant to have indoors is the snake plant. Recent studies show that having only 1 snake plant in your home removes a substantial quantity of air pollutants and filters your air. Just like the monstera, snake plants are incredibly easy to care for. If you don't particularly have a green thumb, I would avoid plants such as ferns and succulents because they do tend to be delicate. However, if you do have a green thumb, they excellent choices to brighten and diversify your home.
